After seeing the trailer for this in the movie theatre when i was in London last summer I was dead set on seeing this film. I have loved Saorise Ronan ever since Atonement and have just become a bigger fan from her other work, the lovely bones, Hanna, the host, and Byzantium I loved so I was obviously so excited to see this , a good indie song in the trailer always gets me. The film itself is a very poignant story of first love and how love or perceived love, infatuation what have you can really inspire you to do things you never even fathomed could even be possible, but really at the end of it it's the main character that did all these amazing things for herself not the love interest, she just needed someone to believe in her to accomplish all of these amazing magical wonderful things that she didn't even fathom to be possible.
I found the Saorise Ronan's character in this film completely relatable. A person whom is completely scared and neurotic on the inside and appears as cold, stoic and mean on the outside. She's a very fragmented girl that has a hard time making personal connections.Obviously it's not an ideal character to relate to but being able to relate to a character at all is a positive thing and just goes to show the depth of characters that are being portrayed, I do realize that as a white middle class girl I have an advantage in terms of the characters that I see in films so I do need to put that into perspective, that being said I wouldn't even say I completely relate to her because she is genitically which is the exact opposite of what I would describe myself as. That being said I know that looks are a very small defining factor in a persons self worth and their value to the world, I do feel the need to relay that factor.
The film itself takes place in the countryside of London where a 16 year old Daisy goes to stay with family for the summer and finds herself coming out of her shell
